Abstract

Résumé: La réanimation médicale est née en France, en 1954. Elle représenta dès lors une « nouvelle médecine » qui vint révolutionner la thérapeutique et le pronostic des maladies aiguës avec défaillance des fonctions vitales. La pratique de cette discipline fondée sur une approche physiopathologique et bioclinique des signes de gravité et sur des moyens techniques lourds les plus modernes au premier rang desquels figurèrent, en première mondiale, le rein artificiel et la respiration assistée par appareil mécanique a renouvelé notre conception de la pathologie interne et ouvert la voie à une nouvelle pensée médicale.

Abstract: In France since 1954, intensive care medicine has been developed in all university hospitals in special medical units named “réanimation médicale”. It was a new approach to treat severe acute illness. Clinical, biological and pathophysiological analysis of all acute events represented a new way manage patients, allowing possible significant progresses in their treatment. Artificial kidney and mechanical ventilation were the two first in the world therapeutic tools of this new medicine.
